  • I used to work law. Here in East TX and I worked with a lot of racist ass cops that knew nothing about gang life only how to be biased. So..rewind way back in like early 05.. I was just 18 and a country white boy I mean southern draw all yall.. Anyway I'm stationed in Cali. Camp Pendleton. I get my first weekend of leave and I pick up a buddy and we just go driving our rental. One white boy and Mexican from TX that didnt speak Spanish. Imagine that(I love you David) anyway shortened version is we both found ourselves passing the exit for Compton after two straight days of getting drunk and going to strip clubs. Two dumb young ass Marines with to much pocket change and my silly backwoods ass flipped a bitch and I entered Compton. I can't recall every street we crossed but I knew we was in the hood and my brown home boy was trippin when I spotted four brothers in a small corner parking lot gathered up on phones(all wearing blue garb) and I whipped in and hopped and I literally said "Hey guys I don't want to be a disrespectful of how y'all living but my name is Joe and thats my mexican buddy we're from Texas yes I ride horses and yes I wear boots and listnen to Country music. They laughed in my face until I spoke up and said but we're Marines were stationed at Pendleton and believe it or not sense I joined up I've been turned on to the music that gets pumped out of your city and we was wondering if y'all wanted to roll with us so we don't get kidnapped or worse and we spent out Sunday smokin bud and a lot. And I mean lot of black people spending extra extra time double and triple checking us but it was fun. I was 18. Soon to be 19 which I spent that birthday in Iraq. Buy years later I got out of the military and I went home to TX to be a local deputy and eventual investigator and I thought of all that watching this and I remember some of the idiots I worked with just doggin minorities especially when we county cops would hear about a rapper/gang member be killed or whatever and sense I ain't no damn lame ass five-0 any longer I'll say I hated that fuckin job. Cali did my country ass good havin been exposed to a lot of different diverse ppl and it helped me be able to be more humble rather than the typical southern white dudes norm. I'm glad to hear this man made it. And as far as the sign flashing he was doing goes. I think it isn't really any different from a proud country ass backwood dude like me who yells out "Yehaw git-r-done" lol. I know those guys a lot of times have to bang because it's that and be protected by someone or get clipped for not being clicked up. I know all about death and losing good friends while deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan kept on them steady dyin. But to have to experience that same war life as a kid..? That don't happen out here in these woods lol. So i have to respect a man like one in this film. Thanks.

  • This is the FIRST time that I have come across such a poignant tale akin to DeMar DeRozan. He has such as BEAUTIFUL name! Ah Mamma Mia, it made me tremble. He happens to be among my most cherished NBA players! I am so glad that GOD watched over him. He could have been killed! I always sensed a degree of mystery in his looks, his self-deprecating quietness and his humble disposition. Fraternally, at first, I love him; NOW, I love him even more! I have Black friends in Sicilia, Italy with whom I intend to share this rather oxymoronic tale of HORROR and FAME. Che Dio benedica DeMar DeRozan...oggi e per sempre!

  • I grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn in the late sixties through mid seventies (1967-1975) 6-14 years old with Brownsville and BedStuy right next to me. There was gangs all over these places as well as drugs and crime. Many good athletes made the pros from those areas as well as jail and the military. Actually it was the normal life for most kids I knew if they were born in the city, came from the islands or down south.
